On 3rd November 2009, the Institution of Civil Engineers launched a report entitled Aviation 2040, presenting four scenarios for the future of UK aviation and airport infrastructure, produced in collaboration with Arup and other industry experts. Arup's Foresight & Innovation team facilitated two day-long workshops which produced four futures for the aviation industry to the year 2040. The four scenarios are based on the key social, technical, economic, environmental and political (STEEP) factors that will likely shape UK aviation and airport infrastructure over the next 30 years. The report challenges Government, politicians and industry to take a fresh approach to the long-term strategic development of the UK’s airports and their place within UK transportation more broadly. You can download the scenarios from the ICE's
website. If you would like to give them your feedback on the scenarios, download the ICE's consultation
document.
